Secondary Aluminum Alloys for the Automotive Sector
Fonderia Gattelli presents the research project “Secondary Aluminum Alloys for the production of high-performance castings for the automotive sector – ASAP”. Financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU
(National Sustainable Mobility Center CN00000023, Italian Ministry of University and Research Decree n. 1033 – 17/06/2022, Spoke 11 – Innovative Materials & Lightweighting).
The project aims to:
– Identify secondary aluminum alloys available on the market that can provide performance comparable to primary alloys.
– Deepen knowledge of the relationship between process, microstructure, and properties of these alloys.
– Optimize process parameters to maximize their performance.
To achieve these objectives, the project includes:
– Bibliographic analysis: an in-depth study of the alloys available on the market.
– Production of test specimens to identify alloys with the highest performance.
– Optimization of casting and heat treatment parameters to enhance the performance of the alloys.
Finally, prototypes of real components will be produced using the identified alloys, which will undergo full characterization to validate the project’s results.

NEW MECHANICAL PROCESSING DEPARTMENT I4.0 PROJECT
Fonderia Gattelli has achieved product and process innovation with the installation of two Industry 4.0 work centers, internalizing operations that were previously outsourced. This has allowed us to improve the conformity of the parts to customer drawings, reduce errors and delivery times to explore new supply chains such as the naval/nautical one.
The project is carried out thanks to the European Funds of the Emilia-Romagna Region
